Steve Gourlay Photography
Steve Gourlay spent his earlier years exploring the world as a competitive skateboarder during which time he developed a passion for photography documenting his peers who were among the world's best skateboarders.
Returning to Australia Steve pursued photography further, studying at Croydon Institute of TAFE in Adelaide where he learned the traditional principles of film photography and darkroom printing. Continuing to hone his craft shooting skateboarding and its personalities Steve's technical and creative imagery inspired decades of skateboarders both in Australia and internationally earning him a current position as one of the best skate photographers in the world.
Now Melbourne based, Steve has transferred his skills in action photography to the commercial world where his recent folio is diverse, and reflects a strong network of clients who appreciate his technical yet time considerate sensibilities (a good habit developed from setting up and shooting action within perilous time frames) and interesting, unpretentious creative perspectives.
Steve is driven to bring photographic briefs to life in a way that uses his detail to lighting and composition to make a genuine point of difference. Steve is passionate about digital photography but will never say no to shooting film.
